Sayyid Ali Husayni Milani (born 1948 CE in Najaf), is a Shi'a jurist and theologian residing in Qom, whose fields of activity are known to include theological discussions related to Imamate and responding to doubts in this area.
Ayatollah Milani is considered one of the prominent professors of the specialized course on beliefs in the Qom Seminary and has succeeded in training dozens of specialists in Kalam and Imamate studies. In the field of specialized Kalam concerning Imamate, in addition to numerous works, he has established academic, research, and propagation centers; including the establishment of the Imamate Cultural Foundation for training Imamate specialists in seminaries and responding to the increasing attacks from opponents of the Wilayat.
Sayyid Ali Husayni Milani was born into an academic and religious family in Najaf. His paternal grandfather was Sayyid Muhammad Hadi Husayni Milani (demise: 1354 SH / 1975 CE), a Shi'a Marja' al-taqlid. He pursued his education in Karbala, Najaf, Mashhad, and Qom under teachers such as Sayyid Muhammad Rida Golpaygani and Husayn Wahid Khorasani.
- Nafahat al-Azhar fi Khulasat Abaqat al-Anwar (book)*, *Jawahir al-Kalam fi Ma'rifat al-Imama wa l-Imam (book)* and *Istikhraj al-Maram min Istiqsa' al-Ifham (book)* are among his numerous works in the field of Imamate studies and defending Shi'a beliefs.
Position in Imamate Studies and Ghadir Propagation
Sayyid Ali Husayni Milani, a Shi'a jurist and theologian residing in Qom, whose fields of activity are known to include theological discussions related to Imamate and responding to doubts in this area.[1]
It is said that Milani, in addition to teaching formal Kharij lessons in Fiqh and Usul, has taught lessons on beliefs, and because of his special skill in this art, his classes have always had many enthusiasts.[2] He is considered one of the prominent professors of the specialized course on beliefs in the Qom Seminary and has succeeded in training dozens of specialists in Kalam and Imamate studies.[3]
It has been reported that Milani has paid special attention to the discussion of Ghadir in his Imamate studies; for example, he has discussed and examined the documents of Ghadir in four volumes (volumes six-nine) of his book, *Nafahat al-Azhar fi Khulasat Abaqat al-Anwar (book)*.[4]
According to some sources, Sayyid Ali Husayni Milani, in the field of specialized Kalam concerning Imamate, in addition to numerous works, has established academic, research, and propagation centers:
- Establishment of al-Risala Center in Qom for the education of Iraqi Shi'as during the Ba'th regime;
- Establishment of the Center for Doctrinal Research (*Markaz al-Abhath al-Aqa'idiyya*) for responding to and refuting Islamic doubts in Arabic;
- Establishment of the Imamate Cultural Foundation for training Imamate specialists in seminaries and responding to the increasing attacks from opponents of Wilayat;
- Establishment of the Educational Vice-Presidency and the Specialized Center for the Imamate of the Ahl al-Bayt (a) to deepen belief in Imamate in society through explaining the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (a) and confronting the doubts raised in this regard.[5]
Early Life and Education
Sayyid Ali Husayni Milani was born in the month of Ramadan 1367 AH / 1948 CE in the city of Najaf.[6] His father, Sayyid Nur al-Din Husayni Milani (demise: 1425 AH / 2004 CE), was one of the scholars of Karbala and the son of Sayyid Muhammad Hadi Husayni Milani (demise: 1395 AH / 1975 CE), one of the Shi'a Marja' al-taqlid in Mashhad.[7]
According to some sources, Milani, at the age of ten, left Najaf al-Ashraf with his family and migrated to Karbala al-Mu'alla, where he began his education.[8] His teachers in this city were generally students of his grandfather.[9]
Sayyid Ali Husayni Milani completed the preliminary Islamic sciences in Karbala and went to Najaf to continue his education.[10] With the migration of his grandfather, Ayatollah Milani, to Iran and his settlement in Mashhad, around 1350 SH / 1971 CE, he also went to Iran and continued his education in the presence of his grandfather in Mashhad.[11] After the demise of Ayatollah Milani in 1353 SH / 1974 CE, he migrated to Qom to continue his studies and attended the lessons of prominent scholars of the Qom Seminary.[12]

Scientific activities of Sayyid Ali Husayni Milani are described in several different areas: teaching, writing, and establishing scientific and cultural centers.
Teaching

Regarding teaching, it is stated that Milani would teach a book after finishing his study of it.[14] He has held a chair for teaching fiqh and usul at the Seminary of Qom for many years, and according to sources, many individuals have attended his classes.[15] His teaching method in this field is described as follows: he first reads the text and phrases of the fiqh or usul book; then, he presents the verses and hadiths related to each topic with a specific classification; finally, he concludes by mentioning, discussing, examining, and critiquing the opinions.[16]
Also, at the invitation of the Ghadiristan Institute, he has taught several specialized courses on imamate and Ghadir for preachers.
