Verse 41 of Surah al-Hajj and al-Ghadir

Template:Infobox Verse Verse 41 of Surah al-Hajj is a verse mentioned in the al-Ghadir Sermon that commands the performance of salat and zakat, and indicates that people should refer to the successors of the Prophet, the Twelve Imams, to be reminded of their rulings after the Prophet.

The context of using verse 41 of Surah al-Hajj in the al-Ghadir Sermon is described as follows: before the speech of the Prophet (s) in the al-Ghadir Sermon reached its final section, the tenth part of the sermon was dedicated to the lawful (halal) and unlawful (haram), as well as obligations and prohibitions. The Prophet's intention in this section was to introduce those to whom people should refer in the near and distant future to learn the rulings.

After mentioning the Hajj, the Prophet mentioned salat and zakat twice: once by referring to verse 43 of Surah al-Baqara and another time by referring to verse 41 of Surah al-Hajj: Those who, if We establish them in the land, will maintain the prayer, give the zakat, enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and the outcome of all matters rests with Allah.

The main point of using this verse in the sermon is that if a long time passes and you are negligent or forget, Ali (a) and his descendants, who are your guardians, will explain that forgotten matter to you: O people, perform the salat and pay the zakat as Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, has commanded you. And if a long time passes and you are negligent or forget, Ali is your guardian and will explain it to you; he whom Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, has appointed for you after me as the trustee over His creation. He is from me and I am from him, and he and those who succeed me from my progeny will inform you of what you ask and explain to you what you do not know.[1]
