Verse 8 of Surah al-Takathur and al-Ghadir
Verse 8 of Surah al-Takathur is a verse according to which the Wilaya of the Ahl al-Bayt (a) is considered a blessing that will be questioned on the Day of Judgment.
Verse 8 of Surah al-Takathur is considered among the verses related to Wilaya:
لَتُسْئَلُنَّ یَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِیمِ,Then, on that day, you will surely be questioned about the blessings
. By using Verse 3 of Surah al-Ma'ida, in which the Wilaya of the Imams (a) is considered a divine blessing and al-Ghadir is considered the day of the completion of that blessing, it is inferred from Verse 8 of Surah al-Takathur that on the Day of Judgment, one will be questioned about the blessing of Wilaya and how it was upheld.[1]
In confirmation of this, it is inferred from a statement by the Commander of the Faithful (a) in the Kitab Sulaym b. Qays al-Hilali that he said: If this community had followed me and obeyed me from the time God took the soul of His Prophet, they would have consumed the divine blessings from above them and from beneath their feet until the Day of Judgment—with happiness and abundance.[2] This means that the blessing of Wilaya secures all aspects of worldly and otherworldly life.
Imam al-Sadiq (a) reminds us about the status of this blessing, noting that on the Day of Judgment, this blessing will be questioned: نَحْنُ اهْلُ الْبَيْتِ النَّعيمُ الَّذى انْعَمَ اللَّه بِنا عَلَى الْعِبادِ، وَ هُوَ النِّعْمَةُ الَّتى لا تَنْقَطِعُ، وَ اللَّه سائِلُهُمْ عَنِ حَقِّ النَّعيمِ الَّذى انْعَمَ بِهِ عَلَيْهِمْ: We, the Ahl al-Bayt, are the blessing that God bestowed upon His servants..., and it is an uninterrupted blessing that will not cease, and God will question them about the fulfillment of the right of the blessing that He bestowed upon them.[3]
Imam al-Rida (a), in explaining this verse and the blessing that will be questioned, stated: The blessing is the love and Wilaya of us, the Ahl al-Bayt, which God will ask people about after Tawhid and prophethood.[4] From another perspective, the blessing of Wilaya is so immense that God grants it to each human being according to their merit and readiness, as He has said: The Wilaya of 'Ali is a blessing that I have bestowed upon whichever of My servants I love. I grant the Wilaya and recognition of him to any of My servants whom I love, and I despise anyone whom I despise because of their distance from the recognition and Wilaya of 'Ali.[5]
