Ibrahim Verse Eight is a verse that was used in the al-Ghadir Sermon to advise Muslims to consider divine pleasure; for if all the people on earth disbelieve, it will not harm Allah, as Allah is self-sufficient and praiseworthy.

Some researchers have depicted the context for the use of Verse 144 of Sura Al 'Imran in the Ghadir event as follows: In the final part of the al-Ghadir Sermon, people were still listening to the Prophet's sermon. The conclusion of this lengthy address was a general summary of the virtues of Amir al-Muʾminin (a), which the Prophet (s) expressed in one sentence using the Qurʾan, stating the highest virtue for Amir al-Muʾminin (a): On the one hand, he brought up the revelation of 'Ali's (a) virtues in the Qurʾan, and on the other hand, he considered his merits to be beyond what could be mentioned in one gathering. Then, considering the vastness of 'Ali's (a) virtues, he instructed us to accept them from the people of knowledge.

In a part of the eleventh and final section of the al-Ghadir Sermon, the Prophet (s) reminded the people to consider divine pleasure by referring to a Qurʾanic verse. Conversely, he reminded the people to consider divine pleasure, for if all the people on earth disbelieve, it will not harm Allah. In this regard, he cited Verse Eight of Sura Ibrahim: And Moses said, 'If you are ungrateful, you and all those on earth, [it will not harm Allah], for Allah is indeed all-sufficient, all-laudable.[notes 1]

This citation was combined with a part of Verse 144 of Sura Al 'Imran.

O people, utter words with which Allah is pleased, for if you and all those on earth disbelieve, it will not harm Allah in the least.[notes 2][1]
